Saturday, 8th July, 2006. Image Intelligence Software today announced the release of version 1.20 of their Qedoc brand of quiz software. The new release contains the major addition of media-playing capabilities. The Qedoc learning software can now use embedded versions of the Windows Media Player, the Quicktime Player and the Shockwave Flash Player. Between them this now means that a huge variety of audiovisual media formats can be inserted into your learning material. The formats now supported include: MP3, MP4, AVI, OGG Vorbis, SWF (Shockwave Flash), MOV, WAV, MID, WMV, WMA, MPG. M3U playlists are also supported. In addition, TXT and RTF files are now treated as media items, meaning that external plain and rich text files can be quickly imported and displayed in the player. Integration of all media types is exceptionally easy because type recognition and file management is all fully automated. Insertion is a single-click process. The inclusion of Shockwave Flash support is especially important for those educators who have already developed learning content and/or presentations. Even highly complex programmed flash presentations can be imported into a Qedoc project with just a single click. The inclusion of OGG Vorbis format is also of crucial importance. For those users of our software who are primarily interested in Creative Commons licencing (because they are using the software for free), OGG Vorbis is one of the most attractive multimedia formats available. Similar to MP3 in quality, OGG Vorbis is primarily used for free and sharable music and audio clips. For example, the online encyclopedia Wikipedia almost exclusively uses the OGG Vorbis format and is a useful source for teachers and other educators developing Qedoc learning modules. Another important feature is the ability to stream media content over the internet. This is of particular interest for trainers and educators with extensive media banks. Normally all media (audio clips, images, flash movies, etc) is embedded and distributed in the learning module itself. However instead of including the media in the module, media clips can be also streamed from the internet on demand. This makes the modules themselves much smaller. Implementation of this feature is again dead simple: to stream media, you just type in the URL instead of a local filename. The rest is automated. A new module has been released in our learning library which demonstrates some of the new media abilities. The Introduction to Musical Instruments is a learning module for children. The module streams high quality MP3's from over the internet and inserts these seamlessly into typical multiple choice musical quiz questions. It can be downloaded for free. The latest version of the Qedoc Quiz Maker can be downloaded here. |
