Memory games and anagram task types added in version 1.03

Wednesday, 12th April, 2006.

Version 1.03 of Image Intelligence Software's Qedoc quiz software was released today with support for new game-like task types.

The most exciting addition has been the inclusion of memory games. These are small interactive computer games based on the traditional games where cards are turned over and matched with each other. Memory games have long been recognized as a motivating learning mechanism, especially in children's education. They have numerous applications. In mathematics, memory games can involve the pairing of sums with their answers. In language arts they can be used for testing synonyms, antonyms and homonyms. In foreign language teaching they can be used to train vocabulary. The memory games included with the Qedoc Quiz Maker include support for media such as images and sound clips, allowing, for example, pictures to be matched to sounds. The memory games include sound effects, scoring system, user-definable attempt limits and dovetail into any standard Qedoc test type.

Another addition has been anagrams. If a user chooses an anagram test type, the application will automatically generate a new anagram based on the answer every time the test is replayed. To help learners keep track of their attempts, letters in the anagram "deactivate" or change their visual appearance when selected and inserted into the right answer. This allows the player to see immediately which letters remain to be inserted.

Other changes in version 1.03 include an overhaul of the scoring system on the hangman-based mystery word games. A few minor fixes are also included with this release.
